Welcome to Darlington Elementary School (DAES), located on the northeastern fringe of Harford County, situated in a rural community by the Susquehanna River. Darlington Elementary School was established in 1841, making it one of the oldest Harford County Public Schools (HCPS); the current structure opened in 1938. We are celebrating 182 years of continuous education to the students and families of the Darlington Community. Because of our history, we continue to emphasize how we, “Honor the Past while we Create the Future.”
Darlington Elementary School’s faculty and staff develop learning experiences based on the belief that each student is an individual with unique abilities, strengths, and talents. To this end, the school provides students with relevant and rigorous curriculum, equipping students to advocate for their needs to thrive as global citizens who are technologically proficient. The physical balance necessary for a healthy lifestyle is actively developed through daily physical, social and emotional exercises. We celebrate school-wide wellness activities while reinforcing daily wellness habits like food choices, exercise, powerful brain work, and getting enough sleep!
Darlington has a proud history of continuous service to multiple generations. We take extraordinary pride in educating new families as well as those families who have a generational history at Darlington. The school serves approximately 120 students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade, and the Structured Teaching with Reinforcement in a Visual Environment (S.T.R.I.V.E) Autism Regional Program’s primary and intermediate classrooms. We are proud of our long history of being a successful Learning Pals Program. We also celebrate our art and music programs who culminate students’ work through concerts, communal art displays and an end of the year art show.
Our staff, parents, grandparents, and extended families provide a supportive, challenging, and enjoyable school environment for all. Darlington’s highly collaborative staff believe in educating everyone and providing learning experiences for all students through well planned delivery of differentiated instruction. Intentional and focused learning instructional practices ensure that students are prepared to meet the College and Career Readiness Standards.
A strong School Performance Assessment team that includes parents, community members, and staff ensures that data are used to make decisions that impact instruction to meet the needs of all students. An active Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and a supportive business community result in a quality community school.
Darlington Elementary School is the home of the Darter Fish, Maryland’s only higher animal that lives in the State of Maryland and nowhere else in the world. The Darter fish is the world's rarest fish. Like our mascot, the Darter fish, we are a rare school, serving the smallest school population in Harford County where we recognize and celebrate the uniqueness of our mascot. Students recognize their individual growth and embrace our core values to exemplify our theme, “Growing Together,” throughout the year. We look forward to partnering with you!
